From Farm To You

Once a year, in April, the entire K-State Shawnee County Extension Staff, Shawnee County Farm Bureau and Cici's Pizza band together to teach second graders across the county where pizza comes from. From the wheat in the crust to the grains that feed the cows that give us milk for cheese to the hogs used for sausage or pepperoni and the tomatoes and herbs grown for the sauce, and not to overlook a brief tutorial on how veterinarians are involved in farm life, the kids witness first hand many of the farming activities involved in making pizza. Of course, one of their favorite stops is getting to eat their pizza.

Master Gardeners participate every year to entertain and educate the children on growing vegetables and other plants necessary for everyday living.
